Keynote speaker BarCamp Ghana 09 - Patrick Awuah
Patrick Awuah is the Founder and President of Ashesi University. We at BarCamp are excited to have him as the keynote speaker for the second BarCamp Ghana event on December 21, 2009 at the
Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST).
Patrick Awuah was educated at the Achimota School and left the shores of Ghana in the 80's to pursue his undergraduate education at Swarthmore College. He graduated in 1989 with majors in engineering and economics. He continued on to Microsoft, where he worked for many years and became a millionaire before he hit 30. He completed an MBA at Berkeley's Haas School of Business. He used his connections and network built from these institutions to raise funds and resources to build a university in Ghana which he modelled after Swarthmore's liberal arts education. Ashesi (which means beginning in Twi) opened in late 2001 and has proceeded to graduate brilliant, entrepreneurial, hardworking students who are the cream of the crop and making waves in the various sectors they've entered.
Patrick Awuah and Ashesi University was awarded the Aspen Institute's McNulty Prize for 2009 worth $100,000. Judges choosing the McNulty Prize included Madeleine Albright, Bill Gates, and Olara Otunnu. He was also a finalist for the Microsoft Alumni Foundation's 2009 Integral Fellows.
